heres to situation... last week a friend of mine told me that instead of having two user accounts on out comuter we should have one...it would run better. So I deleted my fiances user account...her files were then saved on to my desk top. Well I noticed there were two of the same files "herdocuments"..so my dumb ass deletes(perminatly) from my desk top and out computer. Relizing what I had done I rushed a call to my friend who suggested we do this and ask him what to do...I was abloe to get most all of the images and documents back using tune up utilities, but alot of the jpegs that are there, when youclick on them say they have errors. Is there any way to fix this? Sorry for the long story.

Using tune-up utilities to get access to .jpg files sounds pretty weird to me.
What are the error messages you are getting?

Next time this friend of your tells you something, politely ignore him, he doesn't know what he is talking about. Windows XP is designed from the ground up to have multiple user accounts, unlike Windows 98.
There is no obvious reason why there should be errors in the Jpegs, but knowing the error message would help.

The image “file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/michael%20waller/Desktop/leah/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/My%20Pictures/mikeeart/1-5%20063.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
they all say this

The only thing I can suggest is that you copy the files to another folder. Rename them so there are no spaces in the name then try opening them.
Try opening them with another graphics application. You could try opening them with Internet Explorer if you haven't already tried. That may be a little more tolerant of errors as apposed to a graphics editing application.

I have tried dreamweaver, internet explorer, phhotoshop, adobe ill., they all have x's onthe file or say error...Im getting the feeling that I screwed up royaly. I guess why they say you learn from your errors. thanks for your help stuart.

What you are showing in #3 is an error getting an image out of an htm file (ie a saved website, not just any old picture).
Find an ordinary picture that you have saved, double click it and see what happens. If you can't find one then search *.jpg and you are sure to find one in My Pictures or somewhere.
It would be interesting to know if this problem is affecting all .jpg's or just website saves.

A friend of mine deleted a User account and had the same thing happen - I tried helping him recover from the mess that resulted, several days after he had done that.
Apparently when you delete a User account in Windows XP, it also deletes all the personal files associated with that account that are in certain folders - everything in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\(USER NAME) and all it's subfolders (subdirectories), including My Documents, My Pictures, etc.
You are actually warned that will happen when you attempt to delete the account but the warning is rather vague. When the files are deleted, the contents of the files are still there on the hard drive, but file allocation table entry for the file has been deleted and the space the file occupies has been designated as being available for any data to use that space the files occupy.
If you use some utility that can recover (e.g. undelete or unerase) the deleted file before something has written data overtop the space it occupies, the file will be successfully undeleted. The less time between when you deleted the files and when you try to recover them, the better success you will have. However, if something has written data over part of the file, or if the file was originally in many pieces (fragmented) and there is a problem finding all the pieces, you may end up with a restored but corrupted file, and some files that cannot be recovered at all.
I was able to recover most of his document files for that User account, which tend to be smaller and in one piece, but most of the image files, mostly jpegs, which tend to be larger and in many pieces, were corrupted. I tried a few freeware utilities and one paid *.jpeg, *.gif, etc. repair utility but had very little success with those files. In most cases the thumbnail image looked okay, but the image file could not be restored.
If someone else has copies of some of the image files, such as they were sent to or came from others in or attached to email, you may be able to get some of the images from those sources.
There may also be copies of files sent with email somewhere else on the hard drive if they were not saved under C:\Documents and Settings\(USER NAME) and all it's subfolders.
