how to finalize data cd in xp?

Specs: xp home, 512
I need to know how to finalize a data cd in Windows XP. I don't have any other burning software installed. I have dragged and dropped several files into a writeable cd folder. Then I clicked on 'write these files to a cd' in the left pane. The files were written to the cd, the cd was ejected, then a box opened asking me if I was finished. The box opened after the cd was automatically ejected. I clicked FINISHED.

Well, I look in properties, and it says that I still have some free space on the disc. Shouldn't it say that I have zero free space if the disc has been 'closed' (finalized)? If not, then I really need to know how to close the session, finalise the cd, etc. Like I say, I am just doing this stuff in windows explorer, not any special burning program.

Can anybody help?

I suggest you get the proper burning software. The windows software is not the best for any burning solution. Google for Nero.

You could try free software like CDBurnerXP Pro. It should work better than XP.

XP Burning does not offer finalising.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I downloaded CDBurnerXP Pro, and finalized the disc with it. I am happy for the suggestion, because Nero was the alternative, and nero is a very very large download compared to CDBurnerXP Pro.

thanks again. :-)
