When getting rid of an old computer, I took it apart and saved the cd/dvd writer, hard drive and some boards.

I only used it for the cable to come into the house for internet. When we all got laptops, I changed cpu's for this job.

I forgot to erase the hard drive before removing it. How can I erase it now?

I have heard of people using what used to be called vhs erasers. They are big electro-magnets that use magnetic fields to erase data. It can also erase some firmware on some drives. It may even be that the degaussing ring on a crt may erase enough. Any large AC type of field that draws away slowly would do it.

A hammer works too.
