Will someone please tell me how to disable my XP Pro firewall. I want to use Zone Alarm instead. Or, should I use Sygate? I want to use the free version either way.

the XP firewall is disabled by default. otherwise go to:
CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS right click on your internet service PROPERTIES ADVANCED tab
take the check out of the box

why do you want to disable it? you can use them together... you can use XP pro to open/block certain ports... its more of a lower end product... but good for blocking traffic that doesn't need to be open... but if you go to Start Menu> Settings>Control Panel> Connections Icon... then click the LAN icon, then properties, then the Advanced tab... you'll see the check box to disable it.... Zone Alarm is pretty annoying though ;) just with my experience...

I run Sygate Personal Firewall free edition.I recommend it.I disabled the xp firewall and installed Sygate. It passes all firewall test/scans that I have found.I had Zone Alarm basic firewall prior to that. The main complaint that I have heard are difficulties un-installing Zone Alarm.

Have never heard the complaint that ZA is a resource hog, only heard that about Norton's security.
Anyhow, ZA is very nice and simple to use, especially the PRO version.
I did UNINSTALL once as a TEST and then REINSTALLED and it went fine, however I do admit the instructions from ZA were very detailed and complete and long, but if you follow them exactly you should have no problems.
