Ocassionaly I will erase a word document and assume it is gone. When I look at the available word documents the erased document is still listed on the available word documents list under file . When I do a search for the document to delete it, it is not listed. How can I remove it from the list of available word documents. When I click to load the erased document from the file list I get an error that says to look for it on the computer list of files, but it is not there.
There must be a way to delete the unwanted file name(?)Thanks for your help.

When you say "available word documents" im assuming you are talking about the "recently accessed documents" list in the start menu. If this is what you are talking about then here is all you have to do:
1. Right click the taskbar and click properties. A dialog box will be displayed.
2. Click the start menu tab at the top.
3. Click the customize button.
4. Click the clear button. Hit Ok twice to exit out the dialog boxes and the list should be cleared.
I hope this is what you were talking about and I hope it helped. Let us know. Goodluck!

Hi,
I did what you said and it did not work. It is probably my fault for not explaining the problem clearly.
When I start word and click on file a drop down menu lists documents that I have loaded and saved at some time in the recent past. Some of those documents are no longer functional--ie. they have been erased by me. However, the titles are still contained in the drop down list. I would like to completely remove the erased document titles from the drop down list. (Some of the erased document titles are similar to the good document titles and I keep clicking on them by mistake.) When I click on one of the erased documents I get a flag that says the document name or path is not valid.
How do I remove the document title from the drop down list?
Thanks,
I hope I made it clearer. I appreciate your help with this. I am sure I did not explain it properly the first time.Ron

If it's not the above, and is a 'Word' function, you should probably should have asked the question in the 'Office Software' forum.

aegis is right. This should have been posted in the Office Software Forum. What you're referring to is the Recently used file list. You can go into Word Tools and Options and change the number of documents that show there. There is also a list in the Registry. You could search for the filename and delete it there.

I searched my registry for both of the file titles I would like to delete from the word list of recently available files. Neither title is listed in the registry.
Any other ideas?Thanks,
Ron

I know exactly what you're talking about. Tools, Options, General, Recently used filelist determines the number of files that are kept in your list when you open Word. Uncheck that option to clear the list and then start over with opening new documents.

Well, Jennifer,
Thank you for that. Clearing the check mark worked. Then I had to recheck the box and load the file from My Documents. Now I only have one file in that place. exactly right.
I have had this happen occassionally since I can't remember when and you told me how to correct it, easily. Thanks again,
Ron.Now I wish I knew how to keep my keyboard from making typo errors. specifically the problem of typing a lower case letter instead of an upper case error when I have the shift key depressed. Sometimes I have to type the letter 3 times before it will type upper case.
thanks again,
ron. see what I mean?
PS, I really like this new page style for Computing.net. It's a lot easier to work with and gets it right the first time. I used to have to write my question 2 or 3 times to get it included.
