how to delete program not on add/remove list

February 2, 2010 at 05:21:54
Specs: Windows Vista
i recently installed a game on my computer and it works just fine. however, for some reason, i can't find it on the add.remove programs list. it has a folder in programs files, but there is no icon of the game in my start menu. i even had to put a shortcut on the desktop manually
how do i uninstall this game completely if it doesn't show up on the add/remove programs list? and how do i prevent this from happening in the future?
it'd be great if someone could help me out. thanks!

Look in the game folder itself for an uninstall option.

Yes, look in the game folder. Often the uninstaller file is called unwise.exe, or uninstall.exe, but it depends what utility was used to create the installation package.

Sometimes the Un-install is in the Programs list where the game is listed, but not in Add/Remove Programs.

If you can't find the un-install, many things these days use the Windows Installer when they are installed.
Go to the Microsoft site and search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, download it, install it, and run it, If the game was installed by the Windows Installer it will be in the list - delete the entry.

Perhaps the game was a standalone program requiring only placing all of it's files into a single folder and by default it selected the Programs Folder.
If that is the case then you ned only delete the program's folder.

Do go with the other offerings though.

Do a full hard drive search for anything with that applications name in it . Make sure in tools/folder options you have it set to show hidden files and folders, this would be on the toolbar at the top on Windows Explorer (not to be confused with Internet Explorer) Go to the start button ,then to search ,enter name of app. ,see how many files come up when the search completes ?
Good Luck ,Nick
