I want to use my D drive to store some new programs, more or less, set up a Program Files file on D drive, but I want it to show up in Control Panel/ Add/Remove Programs. How can I do this?? Thanks

Kind of depends.
Many programs that use a common install method may allow you to install to any place you choose. They may also allow you to use the add / remove programs in control panel. The program designer would make those choices.
You may be able to move programs. Might move the files and edit registry. Might bork your system.
Might use nullsoft's script installer to make custom installs.
I tend to like programs at portableapps.com. They don't need to be installed as such. You can put them anywhere you need.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

If you choose other than the default installation choice when you install a program, most programs allow you to install them on any partition.
E.g. choose Custom install, and change just the drive letter to the partition you want it to be on - leave the rest of the location path as is.
In that case, it installs a little bit of data on C, and the vast majority of the data on the other partition. The program you install will have an entry or entries in Add/Remove Programs in any case, no matter what partition you install it on, if it makes such entries.HOWEVER - you have a brand name system computer.
Your brand name computer original software installations has (or had) two partitions on the original hard drive - the second one is smaller and has all the data on it necessary to restore the original software that was on the first partition, C, when you first got the computer.
If you want to preserve the ability of the data on the second partion to be able to restore the original contents of C, along with a Recovery CD made for that purpose that you have made by using a program already put there by Acer in All Programs, you DO NOT delete, or alter or add to, the data on the second partition! If you are no longer using the original Acer software installation that was on C, and have re-installed Windows by using a regular Windows CD, and your D drive no longer has the original data on it, go ahead and use the D partition to store data on, or for the location to install programs to.
If you DO still have the original Acer software installation on C and D, if you need more space, get yourself an external drive, or free up space on your C partition for what you want to install.
If you DO still have the original Acer software installation on C but NOT on D, you cannot re-install the original Acer software that came with your system unless you have made a Recovery CD set by using a program already put there by Acer in All Programs, or you buy a Recovery CD set from the Acer web site.
