How to connect to a PC with Vista

I need to connect my lap top and a few other lap tops some are using XP some are using Vista. I don`t know but for now the only way i am able to connect them is by making a virtual Pc on the PC using Vista. Is there any other faster way. Help will be apreciated. Best regards
