Specs: Windows XP
Old speakers stopped working. Bought new Logitech speakers and it is not computer soundcard (Dell)as sound can be heard through headphones. Have I connected to tower incorrectly. Please indicate where I have to insert. A diagram would be useful. Many thanks.

Are you sure you plugged them into the correct audio-out port? Did you bother to read the maual that came with the new speakers? I'm sure the setup is explained in detail & there's probably diagrams as well. Other than that, you need to post the model number of your speakers. Logitech has dozens of different models, some are simple stereo speakers with a single plug, others are more complex 3, 4, 5, etc speaker systems.

If you right click on the volume icon in the tray in the lower right of your screen (I'm using Windows 7) then go to "sound mixer", there may be a scroll down for the device your using. You want "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)" - NOT digital audio. This was the reason I wasn't getting sound anyway. Hope that helps!
