how to compress 1.5GB avi file for facebook?

Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 2 GHz / 2939 MB
hi--i have avi video clip (many different video clips from canon camera joined) that is about 1.5gb--i have tried to compress it with windows movie maker but doesn't seem to work--anyone know of any other easy program/method to compress it so i can upload it to facebook?

AVI's don't compress well. You need to reduce the size by any number of changes. Color, size, quality are common to use.

I'd see if virtualdub or even windows movie maker would work.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

Live and learn. You should not have joined so many movies into a single AVI file, what were you thinking? Compressing that 1.5Gb file would of necessity deteriorate the quality -- perhaps a lot more than you want to live with.

I suppose you no longer have the individual movies... If you do, then the solution is obvious, isn't it?

You could try converting it to MPEG which is a highly compressible format. You will see a skight loss in quality but it will probably be acceptable for Facebook. A lot depends on how good the original was to beging with.
