I had a existing Hard Disk with win xp. recently bought a new unformatted hard Disk and looking to clone the old Hard Disk with win xp and everything to the new HD.
How to do that ?
If I format the new HD then install a new xp, would be easier - Install the drive, boot up your machine using the XP CD - the setup program will create & format the partition for you. correct?
But how to clone a HD ??
Tks.

You need a 3rd party product like Ghost or Drive Image to clone disk to disk. Instructions come with the software.

cloning is faster than a new install but it also brings along any problems with the old system that a new install doesn't have.

I've had better experiences with Norton Ghost. You install Ghost, create a diskette, boot from it and that's it, simple as abc.

Hello everyone,

Yet another method;

Use the utility disk from the manufacture of the new hard drive, such as Western Digitals Data Lifeguard. I've used that many times along with Maxtors' and Seagates'.

Best Regards,

metro,

How come you didn't mention you had Norton Ghost in your original post? A lot of people gave you suggestions for nothing.
