Hello.

I am having a weird issue. When I download something just by clicking it it would normally go to my desktop (where I want it to go) but since this morning I have noticed when I click a file (torrent for instance) it starts to open in a temporary file then it runs. Not what I want but I forget how I got my downloads to always go to the desktop.

Now if I rt click and save as I have no problems. I know I can do that but I figured I am so used to doing it the other way maybe someone here could give me a little assistance.

Thanks very much in advance.

the downloads normally default to the last place you downloaded a file to. Just go to a file you want and if its a link, rt click on it and choose save target as and point it to the desktop

Thanks for the reply. Yes when I RT click it works fine I was only curious why when I click left click it used to go to the same process and save to desktop. Now if I left click it opens to a temp file directory and I was hoping to stop that. Hard habit to break. I never really rt click but if there is no solution I guess I am crap outta luck

Thanks again

Rob

If you are using a torrent program, it led you through the steps on where and what files were to be shared, one of those default steps is the temp file. When I download programs I create a "Downloaded Program" file, which is under My Documents, as I cannot stand having my deskstop cluttered.

If it is a particular file type or several then you can go to Windows Explorer, Folder Options, File types, Select the extention in question and then click on the Advanced button.

For the Action of "Open"
There you can add a tick next to "Confirm open after download" Click Apply and Ok.

The next time you left click on a file of that type you will be prompted to Open or Save to disk.
If you save to disk such as Desktop then the next time you select Save it will default to Desktop or the last place you saved to as noted in the earlier responses.

Hi Rob Dirty_Sanchez, capt, Bryan, hello everyone,

The setting is within the registry and normally will change to the last saved location, as mentioned by Dirty_Sanchez.

It is located within this registry key;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Internet Explorer

After browsing to that location look in the right pane for Download Directory.

You can change the path from there or post back with the path you desire and one of us can create a .reg file to make the changes for you.

Thanks Mesich,

I did what you said and oddly enough its correct. Says its to save to desktop where I want it.

This is only happening now when I click a link for a torrent. Every other lt click works properly. Save or open pops up. With the torrents it never asks I just quickly see temp and it opens so now I will just right click

Thanks very much for the help

Rob
