Specs: Windows XP

I just got this laptop from my friend. But when it turns on I need a password. Problem is he forgot the password so I need to know how to change it or at least get around the User name and password to get into Control Panel

If there's been a transfer of ownership, I suggest you recreate the partition and reinstall Windows.

You will not find Password help (depending on the password that is required) on this forum due to the problems of proving ownership of the laptop. It is unusual for someone who uses the laptop on a daily basis to forget a password and the best advice that can be offered is for your friend to contact the manufacturer for help and be prepared to provide proof of ownership.

Click --> Start --> Run --> type the following command "Lusrmgr.msc", then you can find the users and right click the user and rest the pass.

@Ganesank, the OP can't even get to the Control Panel, so it's likely they are stuck at the login screen and unable to use Run commands. There are a few easy methods to get in, but as Ewen mentioned, proof of ownership is difficult to prove online. Even if Mushy was telling the truth, a mischievous reader can use the same information.
