I would open up your computer and write down the wattage of the power supply currently in there. Then go to compusa or a similar computer store and buy an equivalent powers supply.

"is it really that E-Z?"

NO. Not in this case.
Your power supply is in a proprietary sized case - it is not in a standard ATX PS/2 sized case - it is in a smaller case.
The wiring of the main connector to the mboard is exactly the same as a standard ATX PS, except position 18 has no wire, which probably doesn't matter and a standard wired ATX PS could be connected, but a standard sized PS case will not fit in your computer case, unless you are prepared to modify your computer case, and even then it may not fit inside the case.

If you don't want to have to fiddle with your computer case, you have to get a new PS that is in the same size of case,
Dimensions 125L x 100W x 63.5H mm or
Dimensions US 4.9" x 3.9" x 2.5"
or you have to get yourself a generic computer case a standard sized PS will fit in. The latter is not advisable because I was unable to determine which mboard you have, HP uses a one piece connector for the power switch and led's, and without knowing which mboard you have I can't tell you how to connect the power switch, hd and power led's, or the case speaker if applicable.

What you need to do is to go to the web site of a power supply manufacturer that has listings for replacements for propritary PSs - for HP Pavilion 4403 or the HP part number of the PS, or search the web for either of those to find a new or used PS.
E.g.
This a site has a direct replacement in the proper sized case:
http://www.power-on.com/matx145.html
.........

"...tried to go to hp. got nowhere!"

There is no Pavilion 4403US model listed on the HP site, but there are several Pavilion 4403 models - some desktops, some laptops.

However, I checked and there is no PS listed for any of the desktop models at the parts lookup page:
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/sp...

The desktop model I looked at has a K6-2 333mhz cpu, and a 200 watt PS is enough for a system that has that.

FYI.
It has a SiS 5598 chipset - it can't actually achieve a 100mhz front side bus speed - it's actually running at about 90mhz when you set it to 100mhz. That was a common scam back then.

HP cross reference, where I determined which PS is a direct replacement:

Hey Tubesandwires, Thanks for the info. I check that web site from Response Number 5 and I couldn't find the power supply. It's a Compaq Presario 4403us not a Pavilion. I hope the power supply still is the same? Have you dealt with that company "Power On" before? Is it safe? Once again, Thanks!

If you check on the PSU itself, there should be a Compac/HP part number or model number. You can use that to research a replacement, or the specs (ie: size of the unit), on their website.

Oops - I got the Pavilion from the info in your first post.

Parts for Presario 4403US
http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/S...

Motherboard part number 278636-001, -002, or -006; Loretto

Power supply part number - 278645-001, -002, or -006
200 watts steady state

A search using Presario 4403US or 4403 or the above PS part numbers on the site I referred to reveals nothing.

A search of the web using the first Compaq part number 278645-001 for the PS reveals many "hits", including this $50 upgrade to a quiet 300 watt one:
$50
http://www.affordablesurplus.com/gg...

So far I have not found out whether it is proprietary wired or sized or not.

Here's some more info:
Searched for: loretto
(the Compaq motherboard name)

Many "hits" - you can buy a used loretto mboard many places.
Found this:
"This motherboard is an OEM version of the Lite-On TR100"

"Found in the following systems: (Compaq Presario) 5300US, 5301RSH, 5310CA, 5320CA, 5405US, 5420CA, 4406RSH, 4410CA, 4410US
Lite-On Support Pages:
http://www.liteontc.com.tw "
(I looked there - it seems there is no longer any info for older mboards.)
http://www.igs.net/~ndaines/Qfiles/...

Manual, etc.
Go here:
http://www.elhvb.com/mobokive/Archi...

That is on a mirror of the Mobokive web site, which no longer exists. Mobokive was assembled by the same ndaines - Nick Daines - as in the first link, but he was not able to keep his web site going, so the guy at elhvb made a mirror (exact copy) of the web site available.

tr100_user_manual.zip is a zip of the pdf manual for the mboard

Front panel pinouts are on the nominal page three (page 7 of the pdf). It doesn't show you how the pins are numbered - it's usually odd pins on one side, the same side as the pin marked with a marker symbol (e.g. an arrowhead) or a 1; even pins on the other side, with 2 next to 1 across the rows.
Also, you may be able to read the tiny printing beside the header/connector above the list if you print that page.

inf3.40.1001.zip - is a zip of the Setup for the utility that installs all the drivers for the mboard.

tr100100.zip - is a zip of a bios update download - it is not advisable to flash the bios with this because you have a Compaq bios version, and the mboard may not boot after you flash.
