XP has no dos.

Just boot with your XP cd or try Safe mode with command prompt.

Go here and download clearhdd from the Samsung website:
http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/support/Download/software/

Clearhdd is a tiny program (11k) that is low-level and will write 0's to your entire harddrive in about 10 seconds or less.

Drag and drop it onto your WIN98 floppy boot disk. Insert your disk, reboot into DOS through the floppy;

Type at the A prompt: clearhdd.exe 0 (remember space after .exe) and hit return; it will ask you two (2) times if you really want to do this, hit Y two times. Now your disk is 100% clean of everything, guaranteed.

to ranchhand:.. umm i wrote in my post.. i have no floppy

ok.. i sorta fixed my primary problem.. but my life story is.. fix 1 prob.. get another 1.. i made a boot cd with nero.. and im in dos... but when i type format C: i get this message:

invalid drive, or format not supported
FORMAT [etc.. all the syntax's that are available]
so.. yeah.. my guess is that the hd is partitioned.. and i NEVER touch that crap .. once ruined a HD that way
i went into Fdisk.. and there is 1 partition.. but i have no idea wether its active or not.. and i dunno if thers SUPPOSED to be 1 partition (as a hard drive default) or not.. so.. pfft.. like i said.. i dont like messing with partitions and so on.. also.. i appreciate all the help you guys have given me so far
thank you

Use fdisk to remove all partitioning. Then boot your XP CD and do the install. The install process will repartition your drive.

do you want to boot in to dos, or just open dos? because if you just want to open it, go to run, and type command.com

If you dont try, you'll never know..

Sorry About that, what you should do, is what i do, use a windows 98 install cd, it has, format, and fdisk on it, in the //win98 folder on the cd, its what i do everytime when i install windows, but the only problem is that you need to install windows 98 and install over it when you do it that way, or you can go to www.bootdisk.com and it should have windows xp bootdisks there.
