I'm currently using 128meg ram 850 Duron 40gig 7200 hd with XP. All goes reasonably well untill a program like Kazaa is running in the background, then it runs like a hairy goat. So what is the amount of RAM you use and with what results ? All answers appreciated.
i find that 256-512 meg of ram is sufficient in todays computing world. the ddr ram is especially fast if one's motherboard uses that kind.

it all depends on what you are using your computer for. If you are just running regular programs and are just an average user i would suggest 256mb i wouldn't recommend lower. But if you are into graphic arts and design and stuff you would need higher like 512mb or more. i use 512mb myself and i think that if you can spend the money upgrade to 512 or else at least upgrade to 256mb, especially if you are runnig XP.

You really DON'T need to buy more RAM. I've got an AMD K6 400mhz with 128 RAM and 8 gigs HD. Windows XP is running just fine, also when I'm using Kazaa. I think there's another program conflicting with kazaa. I don't think it's you're system
So try closing down other programs and than start kazaa...

jack what are you talking about you dont need 1 gigabyte you can run it fine on 128, but i reccomend 256 or more or 512 if you do graphic artistry. Kazaa will make one run like a hairy goat. Because when you have a lot of donwloads on your list that list for some reason hogs the cpu. i have a 950 and 256 megs and even if i have a lot of kazaa downloads mine slows down. check out kazaa lite it a a leaner but fully operable version of kazaa but without spyware. http://www.kazaalite.com/lite/ if you run adaware it might say it has spyware but it dont the dll has to be there but the one there is just a dummy dll to fool it so it will run.

If you can afford 512 then go with it, you won't be sorry. I would not go below 256.
