Hi Anthony
Xp Pro in full load, needs from about 1.2 gig to 2.0 gig of hdd. Depending on configuration.
By the time you load all the NECCESSARY drivers and software that MUST be loaded on the C drive, you will use up about 3 to 4 gig.
PLus all other programs you may have and wish to run from the c drive. From experience 15 to 20 gig on the c drive will do job just right. Not to small not to large and the defragmanter will do the job in no time when required.
If you have the room on your HDD create another partition of about 10 gig just behind C, and run all the large programs from that drive. Such as photoshop, auto cad, Ms Office, etc. Keep the clutter on the C drive to a minimum.
And than create the 3rd partition for the rest of the capacity.
All depends how big is your HDD. These are just some guidelines to look at, just depends on how you wish to use the computer.
Hope that is of some help to you.

Janos

Hi Anthony
LOL probably not.
just enough room for XP and mobo drivers, what about the rest ? and if XP doesnt like the hardware of the drive it wont even load.
Seems to me you may need new and biger HDD, how old is the mobo, and can it handle lerge capacity hard drives ?

mobo? u lost me there. whats that? o and this computer is a friends of my moms so im not putting new hardware in there comp for beans. lol

Hi
LOL fair enough dont blame you.
MOBO is a short for Mother Board.
So I would say that you recomend to them if they want XP they need to get new hard drive, if the MOBO ( mother board ) LOL can handle it.

one thing to keep in mind is that xp's NTFS file system is much more efficient than FAT32
XPcan install either file system.
32 GB or less HDD can only use FAT32.
If you want the efficiency of NTFS
HDD should be 32 GB or more, but you should have only one operating system on the drive.

Hi Jedgxe
Sorry but you are very incorrect on those specs.
I have 5400rpm 20 gig hardrives runing in NTFS format.
My work comp has a 20 gig HDD running windows 2000 Pro which can only be formated in NTFS.
Sugest you do some more research.
Regards
Janos
