How does Remove button works uninstall

Specs: Windows XP

I would like to know how does the "Remove" button works for a selected application installation on "Add or Remove Programs" windows console. I guess, it parses WINDOWS REGISTRY to get Product Code (GUID) for the selected application and runs "msiexec" command to uninstall the application. Is it correct? If wrong, please provide me some detailed information as how does it works. Thanks in advance.

Why do you need to know the specifics?

If you are trying to re-install a trial period software you probably will not be successful. There are markers written to the registry that are unrelated to the actual program but indicate a trial period has already been run.

I can't provide a definitive answer to the question either.
