how do you turn dma on dvd drive

when trying to run nero burning program it tells me to turn on dma for dvd drive, where do you turn this on. it says it will do it for you but when you check the ok box it doesnt do it. thanx for any help

Look in Device Manager under your IDE controllers. Pick the channel your DVD drive is on. Right click and select Properties. Under Advanced Settings you will find the DMA setting. Or should.

If you are unable to turn on DMA, it could be because the motherboard drivers have not been installed.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

If this is a DVD attached to an on board IDE connector there are no drivers. XP has built in ones that get loaded at boot time. If it's an IDE card then drivers might be needed.
There have been problems with drives not being able to be set to DMA but instead are set to PIO. Usually deleting the channels in DM and rebooting sets things right again.
There are also a few Registry tricks too. Google will find them for you.
