I am missing a dll file named: WNASPI32.DLL This file is used on many games that I have. When I load a game I receive a message telling me that WNASPI32.DLL was not found? My games worked in Windows98 but this dll can not be found on XP. Can anyone help? Is there a site that I can go to?

Type the name of the dll file you are missing into a search engine (I use yahoo) and you will get some hits on dll sights where you can just download the file you are missing. It has worked for me a few times this way actually.

Have any of these games ever worked on XP? Very good chance that they are not compatable with XP, since you were using them on 98.

winaspi32.dll is available from nero.de website. it is needed by some programs in order for them to access cd roms in XP. This is because XP has a hardware abstraction layer and some software cannot hook up (as) directly to the CD rom without it. Think of it as a driver for disc drives. Although it can be tricky sometimes, I have yet to find a game myself that won't run on XP sooner or later.
Squiff

Squiff, How do you use the nero site? I feel like a dumb@ss by asking this question, but do you need to download nero onto your system first before you can download the wnaspi32.dll file? If you need to download nero first, how much space does it eat up and are there any conflicts with other cd/external cd burner devices? Thanks for your help!

I apologise, I gave you the wrong site- Don't count on your memory! the file can be found at http://www.nero.com/en/download.htm and anyone can get it. If you can't, email me and I'll email the file version on my machine to you as an attachment.
BTW this file does not exist by default in XP- you would not have deleted it accidently.
Squiff

Squiff, I downloaded the wnaspi32.dll file from the site you gave me with download accelerator. The dll is now on my desktop, but I don't know what to do with it now? How do I open it/file it to make sure that it works with Windows XP pro? If you can assist me further I would appreciate it. Thank You, sprank

For Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP only
Use Nero's wnaspi32.dll (by Ahead Software)
Very easy installation: just copy wnaspi32.dll to the %windir%\System32 folder or to your application directory (no need for reboot).
Download: ftp://ftp.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll

Ger, Thanks it is now in my System32 folder. I just downloaded it directly to my Windows/System32 folder. Now to see if the games work properly. Thanks again, sprank
