how do you enable dma mode

hello thanks for your help does anyone know how to enable dma mode when i boot up it say ultra dma mode 5 smart capable but disabled

sounds like smart is disabled.its a hard drive failure warning no need to worry. to check if dma is enabled rightclick my computer icon/properties/hardware/device manager/highlite ide controllers and open porperties look under the advance tab. gl

It's 'Smart' that disabled not DMA mode. Personally I disable Smart on my systems also.

thanks for the help tryed what zig said it has primary and secondary channel says dma if available current transfer mode ultra dma mode 5 but when i boot up it gives me message ultra dma mode 5 smart capable but disabled the reason i ask is i have a dvd rom and some 1 suggest i enable dma thanx so much

"S.M.A.R.T. capable but disabled" means that your hard drive supports S.M.A.R.T.(Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology), but that is is either disabled or not supported by the BIOS or other software.
