Remember in windows 98 you could make a shortcu to shutdown or restart windows
with the file (c:/windows/rundll32.exe user,exitwindows)
Is ther a way to do this in XP.
I tryed pointing it to C:\windows\system32\rundel32 ... but that did not work.Open to any other ideas I need to beable to tell my PC when to restart

Set your power options to turn off the computer when you press the power button. When you want to shutdown push the power button and windows shutsdown then the PC turns off. Ive been doing this since XP beta with no errors.
Things that might cause the PC to hang instead of shutdown after pressing the power button :
Active internet connection.
Buggy AV software.

.....
I don't whant to use the bilt in start menu sutdown.
The reason I want to create a reset Icon is so that I can set Windows Task Scheduler to reset my computer every monday night.

My suggestion was not to use the startmenu shutdown but to use the power button on your pcs tower after making the correct changes in power options.
I did not know you wanted to set task schedular to shutdown windows. I thought you were looking for a single click [or in this case ..single button press] to shutdown the PC.
I have not seen any information about creating a shutdown shortcut under XP.
9X was
Shutdown:
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.exe shell32,SHExitWindowsEx 1Restart:
Change the 1 to 2 in the last command.Someone else may be able to help.
Good Luck.

Not sure this what you looking for:
(Shutdown and Restart Shortcut)
To create a shutdown and restart shortcuts, right click the desktop, select new, select shortcut. In the shortcut window type shutdown -s -t 0 to shutdown and shutdown -r -t 0 to restart (be aware of spaces), fill name for the shortcut. The shutdown requires that you shutoff power manually.
