Norton found the virus attached to C:\WINDOWS\system32\scvhost.exe but it can't quarantine it or delete it. Symantec's website doesn't have a removal tool. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

The virus could be running in memory.

Have you tried doing a full system scan in safe mode?

It is probably running in background.

Try hitting control alt delete go to running processes

find the one that is spelled exactly

scvhost.exe not svchost.exe

and highlight it and end process.

Then run Nav again and make sure you enable to scan packed or compressed files.

I didn't run the scan in safe mode.

That's a great pick up - scvhost.exe not svchost.exe. I ended the scvhost and started a Norton scan. The virus must create the .exe so it looks like the real file. Thanks.

NP. Glad you got it sorted out.

It is a tricky little Trojan for sure.

Files can never be removed by antivirus if they are running.

Hello Lee,
I had this virus. It took over before i could remove it. I could not do anything at all. I had to format my drive. When i tried to open programs it said i was not the administrater. I don't even have the login accounts set up i am the admin. I guess this virus evantually takes over as the admin. There is directions how to remove it on Nortons site but it would not let me do what it said. Like disable system restore ETC. I posted on here about that virus. Look here

whatever you do remove this virus ASAP!

Once I ended the process in task manager and ran a scan Norton found it and quarantined it. Thanks to all.

how do i get rid of bloodhound.packed
symantec found it in C:\WINNT\system32\winapa.exe
it quarentined it and i went in during safe mode, updated the virus definitions, ran a full scan and deleted it from quarentine and deleted all my temp internet files

i checked ctrl+alt+del to see if it was running- and it wasnt.

ive done this 3 times- and it keeps coming back about an hour later.

any ideas on how to get rid of it - hopefully without reformating my hard drive
