Ok...I admit that this is a very "beginner" type of question....but...for the life of me, I can't remember how to do this...
I have installed XP Pro on my laptop and when I go the my friend's company I would like it to be able to log on to his network.
There is an account already created for me there.
I had to format my laptop...it was long overdue...
Anyway, now that I have installed XP Pro on my laptop, when I connect myself with a network cable all I can do is log on to my local laptop....
The log on prompt only has 2 fields...username and password...So my question is...What do I have to do to make the log-on screen include a third field with the name of the network...?
I have asked the IT department at his company, but they have told me it's just to simple for them to help me out..(basically acted like jerks)
Can anyone here help me...?
Thanks

Yeah, us IT guys can act like jerks some times when we get bothered with little things but you need to place your system on their Domain. You need to know the name of the Domain and you may need the User Name and Password of the Administrator to place the system on their Domain.
If you right click on My Computer and Choose Properties then click on the "Computer Name" tab then the Change Box then choose to make it a member of a Domain but you will have to be connected to their network in order for this to work.
I would again ask the IT Dept. to do it for you, if they blow you off go to HR or someone a littel father up the ladder.

Thanks a million KTTD...:)))))
So once I make my laptop a member of their Domain and reboot (I assume)...then I will get the infamous 3rd field in my log-on window..?
I can't wait to try it tomorrow.
Thanks again
P.S. I can't really bitch to anyone about this, since I don't work at this company and I am only a visitor. (a regular, but still a visitor)
That's why I seeked the knowledge of people like you and others on this forum...So I can learn myslef and not have to rely on so many people...:) (And pass the knowledge to others of course)

Yes, you will then get the 3rd option to log on to their network. You will also be able to click the drop down box and log into the local computer off of the Domain. Good luck and if you need further help, just holler.
KTTD
