I performed a clean install but everytime I switch on I get a message that the following drivers are not installed: Via Bus Driver IDE drivers. I tried the original Windows XP CD, I tried the motherboard CD and I tried the internet but no luck. What can I do next? When was the last time you did something for the first time?

It is normally part of the chipset drivers and should be the first one to be installed. If it isn't on the motherboard CD then the only other place is the board manufacturer's website. If you give the make/model of the board someone may be able to point you in the right direction. "I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd
We have no idea what you have, do you? VIA drivers are found at the VIA website:

Othehill thanks but I did install SP 3 but when i start up I'm asked to install Via Bus drivers IDE drivers. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
The main circuit board is: P4m800CE-8237. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
I don't know how to make a screenshot, sorry. In Device Manager I find Multi Media Controller and Texas Instruments CDC Ethernet/RNDIS Adapter with yellow question marks. On opening them the message reads: "this driver is not installed(code28). The Via Busmaster Driver shows a message: "this driver is not installed correctly(code1): I can't see the correct numerical name of the Via Bus Master Drivers and even Belarc Advisor doesn't show them. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
