If you have a brand name Computer (like Dell/HP)it comes with all hardware, their drivers and software applications you have paid for already preinstalled and you need not have to install it again unless it got corrupted or the device manufacturer has released an updated software.

If you have a nonbrand Computer, that builder should install everything for you.

If it is a handed down or second hand PC with a problem with its sound system (hardware/driver or Multimedia program using both the sound card and its driver) we can troubleshoot the problem, provided you can give us some hadware specifications.

The following information will be helpful to suggest the next step:

1. If it is a Brand Name PC, its EXACT make and Model.[Usually displayed on the case somewhere]

If it is a clone, what Motherboard it has? (Exact Make and Model) [You may have to download, install and run a Software like Belarc Advisor, Everest Home or Sisoft Sandra unless you have the Motherboard Disc or Printed manual]

The above data will give an idea about your sound card.

3. Check "Sound Video and Game controllers" cluster of "Device Manager" for any error symbols (Exclamation Point on a yellow background , Red X etc) against the Sound card.

RIGHT click "My Computer">"Hardware">"Device Manager"> + "Sound video and game controllers"
Hope you can get further help based on the above information.
