Hi techie people,
I usually run a 98/XP dual boot with no problems.
I developed a problem with 98 and so reluctantly decided to reinstall it. It started to its routine and then decided it would not do an install. I therefore have a system which is partway thru install. But now my boot.ini file which usually offers to load to xp or 98 doesn't offer this option. It loads straight to 98, which of course is crippled at present.
I guess what I am looking for is the file that causes win98 to try and load, instead of boot.ini offering both. I've tried doctoring the config.win file, but this hasn't helped.
How do I get the boot.ini file back into the boot sequence, and get dual boot back?
Anyone KNOW what I have to do?
thanks for help in advance.

When you partially installed win98, you overwrote the boot sector on your HD
My suggestion is to complete the install of 98
then do a an install of xp from the cd
If you have the choice choose Repair previous installation, if not choose the partition where Xp was installed and install
and be prepared to reinstall you progs

Thanks for the advice so far,
Yep, sounds like boot section
has been altered.
Fixboot sounds promising.I'll try it later (when I've
steadied my nerves!)Fred,
I am not able to complete the 98
install...somehow my system won't
let it (!?)...and I would'nt need to
reinstall XP as it is all there
on my E partition. I just need to
get access to it.cheers

Dan,
cheers,
the fixboot idea worked a treat.
It was complicated by the fact that
I run my hard drives on the RAID channels (and my CD/DVD on EIDE...no slave/sharing)which meant the drives 'could not be seen' via XP recovery,
so I had to put them on EIDE and try
again...success.Thanks again
KevH
