Control Panel/System/Avanced tab/Startup and Recovery/Settings, then unchceck "Time to display list of Operating Systems". This will then boot straight into Windows XP without the dual boot screen.

First make a backup copy of the hidden file c:\boot.ini. Same location as ja's post but press the edit button instead. Get rid of the line under "operating Systems" that refers to the deleted installation. If they are identical just delete one, if not delete the correct one. This will fix the boot menu.
