How do I disable my firewall on a hardened system?

Specs: Windows xp
A program I use is being signed out about every 15 minutes or so due to firewall settings but when I try and change the settings I can't. the options are greyed out. please help

Is this a personal machine or corporate? also what firewall is installed on the machine? Can you tell us what the settings you believe need changing are (the greyed out settings)?

Firewalls don't work that way. Firewall rules are either on or off. No timers.

More likely your internet access is going through a proxy server that has limited sessions to 15 minutes.
