I need to change my BIOS settings so that I can boot from a CD to repair a missing file. I know this is a basic question, but how do I change my BIOS settings in xp?
It has nothing to do with XP or any other operating system. It is a chip on the motherboard that controls all the low level functions as soon as you turn on your PC. You usually get into the setup program by pressing DEL or some other key or key combination as soon as the comptuer is turned on. It should tell you what to press on the POST screen (the first thing you see when the computer is turned on). Once in the setup program you'll look for the section where the boot sequence is set up. Usually it's on the first screen or under a section labeled BOOT. Make your changes so that the CD-ROM is set to boot first, then exit and save. After that you should be able to boot up from your XP disc (if your computer supports it. Some older models do not)
Hope that helps
