how do i boot an iso on a portable hard drive

Specs: windows xp
so, ive been trying for daaaays to be able to boot an iso o/s. i dont want any specific o/s i just want to be able to do this so that i can have o/s on my internal hard drive and on my portable hard drive so then at the start i can choose what o/s (or harddrive) to use then just boot the iso striaght from it without any problems.

ive tried the steps on unetbooting, and added some win98 systems docs.... e.g. autoexec, ms-dos batch file. SYS using the hp disk storage format tool. did tht and rebooted my laptop, the windows 98 start up screen popped up for a second and then went onto c:/< prompt screen, and wasnt sure what to do then.

im not bothered about starting all over agen and trying different o/s. just anything that will able me to boot straight off my portable hard drive.
my dream if its possible is to hav mac os x on my hard drive and be able to boot it on my pc.

sorry if i sound confusing, just been working hard on this.

my laptop is novatech, so just makes it more confusing aswell beacause its not a well known brand.

i am a bit new with this kinda stuff.

.ISO "images", by themselves are not bootable. They are "images" which are designed to be used to create bootable media/software.

It's a good day when you learn something

You can not easily boot commercial OS's from an ISO image. Nor can you boot them in most cased from an external drive.

You should consider using a virtual machine such as vmplayer.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
