Well, from the windows command prompt, you can run
IPCONFIG /RELEASE
to release your current IP
then
IPCONFIG /RENEW
to request a new one from the DHCP server. The DHCP server will most likely give you the same IP address - most servers have a "lease time" of anywhere from 1-7 days. This means that your IP address will be "released into the pool" and perhaps assigned to someone else only if you have not used it in the past (1-7 days).
If you are running a broadband router (linksys/netgear/etc), it is functioning as your DHCP server and you can control the settings. If you are on a cable modem then your provider is running the DHCP server and you can't do much.

download the nt equiv of winipcfg wntipcfg.exe download site after downloading double click it and it will install to "C:\Program Files\Resource Kit\WNTIPCFG.exe" create a shortcut for WNTIPCFG.exe to your desktop or start menu, and it has the gui much easier and you can see the ip numbers in the more detail list.

Can i ask why does it matter what ip you have? Call your ISP and ask them to re-set it for you if it's that important.

I'm assuming that you mean your public IP address that the internet can see. That depends on your ISP, some have static addresses that are constant, some change every hour or two and some, like mine, change every once in a while if you shut the dsl modem down. The modem gets an IP address from your ISP(that's the Public IP that other people on the internet can see) and the modem gives your pc it's private address, unless you have a router between the modem and the PC. In which the router gets it's private address from the modem then the router gives the PC a private address.
