How can I restore my windows Xp without adisk

Specs: Windows XP
how can i restore my windows xp without a disk? I am having problems with my whole control panel now due to a virus i believe. It is coming up with a C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe

first run a free virus scan from securitycheck. then try a system restore. can launch it from msconfig. dont think theres any other way to restore without the disk.

The old owners manual may have it in there. If you don't have it then download it. There are sometimes ways to create disks, while other let you press an F key at boot to recover system and some others have a way to order them online for a small amount.

I doubt that files is a virus.

You can also borrow anyone's xp cd (best if same service pack level but not absolute) then boot to cd and run repair. See microsoft's site for how to repair or use sfc.exe to fix xp.

If you are 100% sure it's not a virus, here is the Microsoft way.

Cannot find the Rundll32.exe file when you open Control Panel
This issue occurs because of a missing or corrupted Rundll32.exe file. This issue may also be caused by a virus.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
1. Put the Windows XP CD ROM disk in the CD ROM drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type expand X:\i386\rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe in the Open box, where X is the letter of your CD ROM Drive.
4. Restart the computer.
