How can I place my WMP on my taskbar

May 18, 2011 at 19:44:40
Specs: Windows XP
I have tried restore my windows but it failed.
The WMP option on the taskbar is there but it still not placing my WMP although it has been ticked.
I have tried run the wmpband.dll file. Though the run was successful but my WMP still did not appear on my taskbar.

My last resort is to reinstall my windows using the CD but the CD is not with me now so I wish that this would not be the only solution for me. Please help.

I want to place the WMP on the taskbar not at the quick launch area. When WMP on the taskbar it shows the play button so I don't have to maximize nor minimize it to stop or play the WMP.

It's a little complicated but the steps are here, did you follow them all?:

If you enable Windows Movie Player as a Toolbar on the Taskbar, it will only show up once you actually open/play sumpin'...not until then, because otherwise, well -- why should it?

MVP as an added Toolbar does offer extra "control-from-the-icon" features as options. I suppose it might be desirable to some users.

I THINK (and I am really guessing here) what you may want, for whatever reason, is for WMP to show up in the SystemTray/Clock area as opposed to the Taskbar area, am I right? So then maybe you want to run WMP "as a Service" (questionable choice, IMHO), so that may be a direction you want to "investigate" (i.e.: adding WMP as a service, if that is even possible)...

I'm not even gonna try it here on my system, thank you -- just can't see an advantage. But, if successful, maybe let us in on what that is supposed to offer, 'cause we may be missing out on some remarkable feature.

Personally, I try to avoid WMP, so convince me... I promise to evaluate your assessment/objective without prejudice (albeit with some skepticism), I really will. Enlighten us. I find this intriguing.

IMpatient : As I stated on my question above - I wanted WMP to be on my TASKBARwhenever I minimize it so that I can play music on WMP and pause/stop the player without maximize the WMP -then again, I already stated this situation in one of above reply.

Please read my question through before posting any ASSUMPTIONS because not only you wasting your own time but others who is having the same problem like mine.

It was not clear to me before... but now i think I understand better.

• Right-click on the Taskbar
Click on Toolbars
Select ["check"] "Windows Media Player"
• The WMP feature[s] will then be available

Hope I have interpreted your question correctly this time...

It is already "ticked"? Can you describe what happens when you minimize WMP?

I have posted a reply TWICE ... UN-successfully. Very frustrating. I will post this non-answer, just to see if I can still post!! I was not using foul language, or anything like that :) I will try without "Preview Follow Up"...

Well, THAT worked!

Now I have to recall my two failed replies...

Fortunately, I still had a bit saved on the Clipboard (for all the good bla-bla-bla...)

I have just run a couple of tests:
• Disabled WMP as a Toolbar
• Re-opened WMP, and Minimized it
• New dialogue box opened, describing the Mini-mode (but that box was not the "focus". That dialogue box also had a "Do not show this message again" kind of option, un-ticked
• Re-enabled the WMP Toolbar, and it worked immediately, without having to close WMP first

Whether that "Do not show this message again" option is ticked or not should not be a factor... only the Toolbar option is. Maybe you can try other "Toolbar" options, like the Quick launch, to see if that aspect is at the source of your problem, rather than focusing on WMP itself -- just a thought.

I am posting this as-is, without a "Preview" this time...:)

Then again it was mention in my TOPIC OF MY PROBLEM THAT I WANT TO PLACE THE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ON THE TASKBAR not other "aspect" on the toolbar which I did not mention it in my topic and is not a problem to me because everything else is working except for the WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

and AGAIN I would like to say that the WMP OPTION ON THE TOOLBAR IS TICKED/CLICKED/ENABLED but it is not showing my WMP as the Mini-mode.

Thank you for you time. :)

For some strange reason, for a couple of days, I was not able to post a reply on here, send email, and access some websites, but all cleared up this morning.

Back on topic, here is a long shot:

Try Run[ning] in this sequence:

C:\Windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /ShowWMP /SetShowState

regsvr32.exe "c:\program files\windows media player\wmpband.dll"

regsvr32.exe c:\Windows\system32\wmp.dll
