Compque laptop windws XP Physical Address, have usec ipconfig & cmd, my network icon and properties, get message about batch file. have also tried to ping the address . any help?? also \ key is now # sign who do I restore?

If you are referring to your IP address, you are correct that you can use IPCONFIG using the command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd.exe -> ipconfig) or the GUI using Control Panel -> Network Connection -> Local Area Connection -> Right Click & Properties.
If this does not display your IP settings then ensure that:
1. Your LAN/Network driver is installed
2. The driver is working correctly
3. A cable is connected to the LAN socketCan you be more specific about the 'batch file' if these steps do not work?
As for the \ and # keys, this sounds like a keyboard/language layout problem. To correct this go to:
Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Langauges Tab -> Details button and then click Add/Remove to set the correct language/key layout for your keyboard.

You have to do ipconfig /all to get the mac address listed or you just get the short version.
sounds like you need a new keyboard. try a different one before you go any farther.
Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Here's a script that will do that:
@echo off
ipconfig /all | findstr "Physical"
pauseThis one will save it to a text file
@echo off
ipconfig /all | findstr "Physical" > MAC_Address.txt
pause
"Computer security." — Oxymoron

Key board was left >ALT shift
Windows\systems\32cmd.exe doed not recognize ipconfig/all as a command or file
have tried ping, can read IP addres used to ping in my network. connection to LAN allows for net connection to server, still can't find MAC address need this to connect to internet through my provider
Does Compaq Pasario use a different access command?

responce #1 ipconfig is not reconized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Responce #3 echo%path% = C:\windows\system32:c\windows;c\windows\system32\wbem;c:\nc5;
Still no luck on any path or entry?????
