Hi,
I really wanna know how to delete the ISTsvc.exe file, my Ad-aware and Spybot S&D can not do it, and eliminating it from the regedit, manually elimination doesn´t work.
I tried to eliminate it in the SAVE MODE, and it allways appear again.Someone who knows to eliminate and/or block it ?
I get some info. from
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.istbar.html
and tried everything, but, guess what, it doesn´t help.Thanks....
Don´t freak out until you know the facts...Relax...!

Did you turn off system restore before doing all the procedures? You must do that. Don't forget to turn it back on.

Per,
I´m using W2k...
Some procedure to delete that file ?Don´t freak out until you know the facts...Relax...!

Hi AKA. I never used W2k but I assume the procedures are the same. Try the site link in the original message for symantec.

Try shuting down the dbgout.exe process, and then ISTsvc.exe.
Then goto %programfiles%\ISTsvc\ and delete ISTsvc.exeI think dbgout.exe starts ISTsvc.exe each time you stop the process.
This worked for me without starting the machine in SafeMode.

Hello, I have exaclty the same problem as AKA.
Already tried everything but istsvc returns only after a few seconds. Also tried all spyremoval tools the first page of google offered and booted to safe mode.
This really sucks. Im really sick and tired of rebooting all the time.. the symantec removal tool, after a huge waste of time and cpu capacy says "nothing found", but then i open my taskman and see istsvc.exe running. i can kill it, but it will reappear after a few seconds, no matter what i do. The file itself is not deletable because of process violation. I can delete it in safe mode, but when i boot back to normal mode its there again. Already tried in both, safe and normal mode: adaware, search and destroy, security taskmanager, manual registry removal, hijackthis, symantec tool, etc..BTW:
I dont have any process or file names dbgout.exe running nor on disk.:/

Having gone thru the same, i can really feel and share the frustration of all folks here. One night i stayed from 10pm til 5am trying to get rid of this..nothing worked, no freebie antispyware removal apps could help. The phantom pest would always return.
I lucked out eventually, found a terrific tool that cleaned out my machine in a single scan and one reboot. And it additionally found 120 entries other apps didnt catch. If you re desperate, go get Spyware Doctor, best 30 bucks i ve invested recently. Now i have a great tool that guards my PC 24/7 with its awesome features.Hope this helps
adrian
