Hello, I had asked once how to copy and save outlook express folders that I have created with emails in them as backups. I have now reinstalled windows, and have some .dbx files that I would like to place in the necessary folder so that the emails and folders I have created will appear in my outlook express again. The thing is, I tried searching but I do not know how to access the folder to replace the files with. I tried clicking on the Properties tab of the new folders I have created, and the path for it is:

C:\Documents and Settings\home\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{2E2E6A3B-45D9-480D-949F-52FE5D82A064}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Basic Plan Package.dbx

But how can I get into that folder so I can overwrite it? Thanks

Apparently you can import DBX files into Word (not just OPENING with word, IMPORTING is the key) although never having tried it, couldn't tell you how well it worx..........

Why make things so difficult?

Copy the dbx files to your hard drive.

Remember where they are.

Open Outlook Express, go to File, Import and follow the directions.

Hooner,

Sorry, guy. I meant the registry hack was a bit harder than things needed to be.

Didn't know you could do that with Word.

Could come in handy.

seawatch that didnt work, it said that no files could be found in the folder where I have stored the .dbx files. Could anyone just tell me where I can find the folder where they are stored, so I can simply overwrite them. Thanks

I don't understand what's stopping you going to:-

C:\Documents and Settings\home\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{2E2E6A3B-45D9-480D-949F-52FE5D82A064}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\?

Have you set Explorer to view all files and I presume home is your user name ?

Just dump your saved .dbx files in the folder and overwrite as prompted.

If for some obscure reason you can't see the folder try copying the .dbx files over via the Start/run box e.g.

Copy x\xxxx\*.dbx C:\Documents and Settings\home\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{2E2E6A3B-45D9-480D-949F-52FE5D82A064}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

where x\xxxx\*.dbx is where the files currently are.

I am trying to do this very same thing, but it isn't working for me. I have installed XP Professional, but I cannot find the home/local settings folder in application data. Also, start/run will not allow me to copy the files over as you suggested. Anyone know how to do this in XP?

This definately does work so you must be doing something wrong kari.

Don't forget "Home" refers to the user name which you use to login.

Also {2E2E6A3B-45D9-480D-949F-52FE5D82A064} will be different on your PC but otherwise the location for the .DBX files is as stated.
