does anyone know how to have the full filename displayed on the desktop?

On my desktop long filenames don't show all of it. They look like this: longfilena...

What I want is to see the whole filename, like this: longfilename.doc

I don't mean unhiding the extension, i've done that and shorter files name are displayed in full, like: short.doc It's the longer filenames that have the "..." at the end instead of being able to see the whole name.

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying.

I found the instructions on techtv.com call for help forum.

If anyone cares...this is how it's done:

Display Properties
Appearance Tab
Advanced Button
"Item:" drop down menu
Scroll down to "Icon Spacing (Horizontal)"
"150" is the max (not sure why?!)
"OK" to close "advanced" window
"OK" to close "display properties" window
A "please wait..." box appears and the screen fades and then reappears, but it doesn't take effect until you restart.

In order to move the icons closer together I had to disable "align to grid". To do this:
Right click on desktop
Uncheck "align to grid"
