I can't login into my Hotmail. It gives me this error:
--------------------
Alert
The operation timed out when attempting to contact by110fd.bay110.hotmail.msn.com
--------------------Instead of going to my inbox this url is in the address bar:

-------------------I tried logging on a different computer but it still doesn't work.
The strange thing is that I can sign into MSN Messenger but not Hotmail.
I tried accessing my brother's hotmail account on my computer and that works fine but I can't access mine.I have run Ad-aware, deleted temporary internet files, cookies and the caches on both Internet Explorer and Firefox. I also restarted my computer but no changes.
My password and username are entered correctly, as I can sign into Messenger using those. What is happening?
Any help appreciated.

Probably the site is having problems or is busy. Give it a couple of hours. Or has this been like this for days or just now?

I just tried and couldn't get in either. It does look like they are having problems. However I can check my mail ok by using Outlook Express.

I'll contact Hotmail then.
In the meanwhile I might set up an Outlook Express account if I can.
To be able to set up an Outlook Express account for Hotmail, is it required to have a paid Hotmail account?
If not, should I use the POP3 feature or IMAP?
And what should go in the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server fields? Thanks.

For a semi-decent solution to your problem, download Hotmail Popper and Mozilla Thunderbird. Install both and setup Thunderbird as shown in Hotmail Poppper's manual.
This allows you to treat your Hotmail email account like a regular POP3 one. It's quite a slow interface, though.
For a decent solution, you seriously need to stop using Hotmail. They suck beyond recognition. They are the largest corporate piece of shĩt I've ever come across. After using them for many years now, I can safely say that switching to your own domain and paying a small charge is far, far easier than using Hotmail.
Hotmail have all sorts of silly hidden clauses, you get a lot of spam (despite their efforts), your account always deactivates and blocks mail after a short time and they don't really care about you, the individual.

hi,
i am having the exact same problem. I downloaded hotmail popper and mozilla thunderbird and set everythign up, but it still wont work. Ive even set up an account with outlook express with my hotmail account and that still wont work. I know my password is correct, because i can sign into msn, and i also know htat there is nothing wrong with the settings on my comp bceause i can sign into hotmail using other accounts. But i need to access the email on this account. Any help will be appreciated, and thank-you in advance.

Hm, that's strange. It's unusual to be able to sign on with different user accounts but not the current one. Click Start and then Run. Type control userpasswords2 and click OK. Click the second tab in that dialog and then look for the option to remove all saved .NET and any passwords.
Next, run Disk Cleanup to remove all temporary and unneeded files. CCleaner is also excellent for this. Then get Firefox and allow it to become your default browser. With Firefox, go to hotmail.com and try signing in.
That should work.

i'm having the same problem. hotmail is my homepage, and after signing in I get a message that reads: "the operation has timed out when attempting to contact www.hotmail.msn.com".
and then when I try to get back to my homepage (hotmail) by depressing the button on browser top, i get the same error message.
i've tried mozilla, explorer, and have deleted all temp int. files. Nothing has helped.
oh, and I CAN get onto my hotmail acct. at the public library.
what is up with THAT?

well, i just unplugged my modem and wireless - guess what??
everything works fine.
anybody know why that might be??
