Error the external hard drive was hooked up to my desktop - not laptop. The message I consistently receive is as follows: Windows – Delayed Write FailedWindows was unable to save all the data for the file E:\$Mft. The data has been lost. The error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

Possible external hard drive failure. To confirm, test it with the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software for Windows. The links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm...

If the diagnostic software says the drive has failed, you need a new drive.
