I was recently on the google search engine and clicked on a link to do some research and one of the links led me to http://globe-finder.net/101/. Anyway, I got out of the site, and went about my business. However, when I got on the internet next time I noticed that my home page had changed from computing.net to the globe-finder page. Initially, i was a little upset that this web site changed my home page without me knowing. I just think that is a sneaky and unprofessional way of doing things.
So, next, i did what anyone else would have done. Went to Tools-internet options and changed my home page back to computing.net. I thought this would definatly do the trick, but i guess now that was an optimistic assumtion. The next time i got on the net, the same thing. My home page has been changed back to the globe-finder.net. At this point I am pretty p.o. and went to tools-internet options and deleted all cookies, deleted all files for viewing off line, cleared my history and typed in my computing.net home page again. However, no luck. I am ready to rip somebodies lungs out through there eye sockets for making a globe-finder web site that does this, cause this web site is still coming up as my home page.

another thing I noticed was that when the globe finder site came up as my homepage, when i went to change my home page back to computing.net it said in the home page address text box==> about:blank. Now, why this may seem obviouse to some on how to rectify the situation, I wanted to do this without reinstalling windows explorer or fooling around with the system registry. Can someone please hack that crappy web site and really give those ding dongs somthing to fix!! (sike) anyway, If anyone could help me through this and give me a half way decent explanation of what is causing this I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Spybots. Download adaware, update it first then run complete test.

You will be glad you did...

If they're in spybots database. If not, you'll probably have to tweak the registry yourself. Look in current users > software > microsoft > explorer.

If not there, try machines.

No need to reinstall windows or format your hdd...sounds like your browser was hijacked by that site...If after running ad-aware and another good spyware removal tool called "spybot search and destroy" doesn't fix it...then download "hijack this" unzip it, d.click hijack this.exe, close browser windows and hit "scan" The scan button changes to "save log" button. Save the log and paste results in reply.

Most of what you see in the scan is safe so don't fix anything yet.

Spybot will need to be updated as well.
Once you get the program installed, click online, search for updates, check and install the updates, then restart spybot so updates take effect.
Remove the red stuff, reboot.

Spybot

Hijack This!

Before posting Hijack log please use ad-aware and spybot to remove what they can first. Thanks!

Personally i like spybot more then adaware. Its completely donation based and updated often.

It has an immunize option that will add known bad sites to your hostfile in such a way that they will be blocked.

Looks like you possibly picked up a variant of the CoolWebSearch hijacker. Go to the link below and download and run the CWShredder file which may correct your problem.

After you rid yourself of the culprit(s) use these two registry scripts to lock and unlock your IE browser homepage...

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/HomePageLock.reg

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/HomePageUnlock.reg

Have not had a hijacking since...

Keep in mind thought...there will be a new entry listed in the spybot findings the first time you run it after this...right-click and select exclude from further searches...

Here is some info on what CWS Hijacker does and many of the sites affiliated with it, and why it looks like msn directed you there.

I recently acquired the insidious 'Globe-Finder.net' variant of the numerous scumware viruses/ Trojans/ Adware. I had repaired an earlier version several weeks ago, the 'coolwebsearch page" variant with the CWShredder recommended then. When I downloaded it again from the dialog applicable page herein this website, it apparently not only eliminated Globe-Finder, but has since totally disabled IE; can no longer access the internet via that computer except my server via Outlook Express for e-mail only (no links in the E-mails work). I recently installed a Firewall/Network Hub (hardwire) and the other secondary computer sharing the same DSL line seems to be working just fine. What do you think has happened to my browser functions? Help!! Dan K
