I have a Linksys BEFSR41 4-port router currently connecting a WinXP with a Win98 computer. Is it possible to activate file and printer sharing between them? I got this message form the Linksys website concerning this, but am not sure what it means...

"

If you're using Windows 98/ME and try to access a Windows 2000/XP PC then you may not be able to access the shared portions of the Windows 2000/XP computer due to user right restrictions. To get around this you may want to have the Window 2000/XP PC access the files from the 98/ME machine. Else you'll need to setup User permissions. For more information on that you can check Microsoft's website or contact their technical support."

Does this mean that I cannot enable file and printer sharing between the 2 computers????

Yes you can share files between XP and 98 or me , I have done this and I also have a befsr41 4 port router. Actually at one time I had all three of these hooked up and shared files and played games.

You can have file and printer sharing with Win9x and XP. The easiest way is to use the XP networking wizard to create the network for your computers and create the network setup disk on your XP machine, take it to the 98 machine and run it on there. Or if you have XP pro then you can go to :-

control panel
admin tools
computer management
then expand the local users and groups branch. By creating accounts and setting privelages you can then enable printer sharing by manualy configuring your network.

XP network setup wizard is the easiest tho ;)

Second NeoGeo's thhoughts and would add that you will have to enable the sharing functions of the individual folders ie; MY Pictures etc; thru right click options. You can do the same to your printer from the control panel.
