I am setting up a home network trying to share files between 5 computers all have XP pro except 1 has xp home. I have a cable modem connected to a 4 port router. 3 ports go directly to computers, one port goes to a hub which goes to two computers. I have run network setup on all computers and we can all get on the Internet and all see each others shared folders in My Network Places screen, but nobody can access the folders because it says that, "(the computer) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The network path was not found."
Have i set something up wrong, or do i need to set access permissions? And if so how do i do that. Really i just don't know what wrong and if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it.

I would try turning off simple file sharing. In, say, Windows Explorer, go to tools, folder options, view, and turn off simple file sharing. Should be at bottom of list. I've been told this should not be on for what you're doing. I have XP Home, not Pro, and it's not an option there.

Ive tried it on XP Pro's but, your right i cant choose that as an option in home, and it is still not working. Would how we connected the cables have anything to do with it?

the xp home is one that is connected to the hub first and in the control panel there was network connections twice

I am having similar problems. I can access the internet with both computers, (XP Home on both) but cannot share any files, or even see them. I get the same error message when attempting to access the other computers. Good luck, hope you get the help you need. Which would probably help me too.
