Comment:

I'm currently trying to create an administrative template to use with group policy manager in a Win2K3 domain.

I've having problems with the template though, it doesn't appear that you can access the HKLM\SYSTEM registry path.

I've got a template setup (below) and i've changed the path from SYSTEM\ to SOFTWARE\ and then it starts working.

If the path is in the SYSTEM key then none of the policies appear when the template is imported into a GPO.

I'm using the below template to set a default resolution for stations.

Alternatively, if anyone could recommend a way to set the default resolution on a computer without using a third party app then that would have the same effect.

Anybody able to answer either of my questions?

Regards

Neil Knapp

In trying to answer your question... The only thing ,so far , Is a site to download the resource kit tools... In there is a tool to edit the GPO

Microsoft technet site

Not sure on the rest of it,,, As no one else responded I just thought of replying just to show you some people may be lurking yet , Unsure how to answer as , You'll probably know as much about it or are knowledgeable enough to figure it out through your own resources...

As I am not an MCSE , myself, It would take more time for me to look into it than you , Probably, and While I feel it could be a Rewarding experience , Knowledge wise, I at the moment don't have a win 2003 server operating system ,,, and to ,," Play around " with it to see for myself, the changes... that take place ,, Just isn't possible,,,

I hope you find something and I hope you are replied to ... I saw another post about transitive ? ,,, Something or other ,to do with Active Directory Services... And it went unanswered,,,

I have an MCSE book but My time is limited in searching for the possible answers at the moment,,, Well Good Luck in either case,,,,

Thanks for the reply quacked, it's always frustrating when questions go seemingly ignored so your response is welcomed.

In answer to my original question, I found a solution. There wasn't anything wrong with the template as I had verified it through policy editor.

What needed to be changed was the "Filtering" on the group policy management console.

After importing the template choose:

View > Filtering > "Only show policy settings that can be fully managed" needs to be UNCHECKED.

After I unchecked that option the policy settings in that template appeared.

It is not true we have ignored your question. It's just that none of us who have read this thread are familiar with the issue. It's a good thing that quacked knew something about it and so have posted his thought.

Well Thanks Neil.. I just learned a little something ,,, Funny ,how sometimes it's something so simple.. or seemingly so... and that it would just be a simple setting..

Glad to see you figured it out ,,and now I too Hopefully if I ever come across the problem will remember that,,,
