Hi,For a while now my svchost.exe has been really high, about 17,900 after a reboot, could it be because i've almost used up one of my hard drives? i have 2 hd's twenty gb in one and twenty in another,i havent used the second one yet,Should i get a new processor,or some ram? another thing i have a geforce 4 ti 128 ddr,Although the graphics are good on half-life,it looks sorta bad on bf 1942,and midnight club, like when i do a turn, the image sorta looks sliced, something about refresh rate..sigh..if i get a athlon 2200 will that fix the problem? My duron has 3dNow,So does the xp2200,Would it make a big diffrence in graphics? my motherboard is or once was a biostar,i took it to the shop and my buddy put and agp extension on it.

Sorry if this was too long,

~Bryan

SVCHOST.EXE could be one of many processes. To find out what is exactly is:
1) Open the Task Manager and click View, Select Columns. Put a checkmark next to PID (Process Identifier).
2) Click Start, Run, cmd /k tasklist /svc and look at the service(s) listed next to the corresponding PID.
3) Visit www.blackviper.com to see if that service is really necessary.

As I recall, I was having problems with the "DNS Client" service of svchost.exe going crazy after I installed some recent Windows' updates. I ran services.msc and set this service to manual, and I didn't have any noticable problems.

Hope this answers part of your questions!

If you're wondering, I have two instances of SVCHOST.exe on my tweaked system:

~3,200 KB: RpcSs

~15,500 KB:
AudioSrv, Dhcp, EventSystem, LanmanServer,
lanmanworkstation, Netman, Nla, RasMan,
SENS, SharedAccess, ShellHWDetection,
TapiSrv, TermService, winmgmt

I've disabled things I don't use like Themes, Windows Time Sync, Automatic Updates; but most people probably want to keep these.
Also, take a look at www.blackviper.com
