If it was me, I would try reinstalling the audio adapter drivers.

I am curious, about this ocurring after updating to windows service pack 3. Does anyone think this is responsible and should I uninstall service pack 3 and will it negatively effect my computer?

I appears from the link jam posted that the driver in question does not work under SP2. So it makes sense that it would be included in SP3 or auto updates has downloaded it BECAUSE you now have SP3.

Oddly enough as quickly as this appeared it has now disapeared. Go figure, technology is a frustrating thing. My sound was never effected by this throughout by the way. Thanks much for all the responses. I love this sight it is always very helpful.
