Hide the contents of this folder not availabl

Specs: Windows XP
"Hide the contents of this folder" icon not available any longer when I go into local disk. Before, I use to go into "my computer" then "local disk" then a blue screen use to pop out and it said "These files are hidden". Now i go into "local disk" and no more blue screen, it just shows all the contents in local disk and it doesn't give me the option to hide them anymore. How can I fix this? I dont want to make it invisible, I just want the blue screen to pop out again. Any idea why this would happen? I have windows xp. Thanks for the help.

Hide folders is not something native to Windows. So | suspect you had a third party application that is no longer working. In that case you need to reinstall it.

The only way to hide a folder in Windows is via permissions which makes it hidden to someone that doesn't have the right permissions. However, you need permission to few the folder in order to change permission. So that is a bit of a catch 22 as far as what you are trying to do.

I know the screen you're asking about. Why would you want to see that? You should be thankful it's gone. If you insist on getting it back, open the folder you want to hide, then on the left side of the window under "System Tasks", select "Hide the contents of this folder"
