hidden partition??

Specs: Windows XP, 2.2 duel core, 1gb ram
hey all, this problem is annoying me like mad lol i aint 100% sure if i have a hidden partition or not but hereswhat happen, my mate made me a copie of his windows 7 disk to try it out and to see if it runs on my system ok, the disc was not a iso so i had to install throught windows, i did however miss read the option to have it as a duel boot, i ended up having windows 7 installed and a folder windows.old which is my old xp setup. i put windows xp back on my system and now my 500gig hard drive shows as 465gig, i aitn sure if i have a hidden partition or not but i ran diskart, pdgedit or w/e its called, using boot & nuke etc and kill disk still shows 465gig, is this normal? 35 gig seems to be alot of unused space. please help its really buggin me, cheers :)

Bumbo, 45 Gig IS indeed a lot of space, but it's not like you have a shortage of space available. The Windows OS does indeed store itself as a hidden file and you have the option to 'unhide' files should you desire.
Another 'maybe' is semantics. When calculating memory space, we think of a KB as 1,000 bytes. A drive thinks of it as 1,024 bytes.
Very little difference, but it becomes significant when dealing with Gigs.

ah cheers m8 and yea lol i aint short on space, but it was kinda annoying me because theres no way xp pro sp3 is 35gig lol, only thing i can think of is either its normall which it probs is or the windows 7 with the recovery stuff and my old xp back = that 35 gig lol?. tbh i never even checked the drive space befor i even tryed to use windows 7, but everything works fine i still have alot of space so no harm done i guess, cheers ed :)
