Hidden Partition on Dell Notebook

Comment:
I am going to wipe my hard drive clean and install XP pro and SUSE 9.2 pro on it. But, I'd like to backup this hidden partition first. Windows think this partition is FAT32, but Partition Magic says it's "CP/M, concurrent DOS, CTOS" and refuses to assign it a drive letter or browsing it's content. Is there anyway that I could gain access to the files kept on this volume?

"CP/M, concurrent DOS, CTOS" is disk partition type DB reserved for restoration or recovery operation using Convergent Technologies OS. You should not delete this partition or your Dell CD will no longer work.

I think I just changed the partiton type and accessed it. Not sure. As above you might need that info so don't fool with it unless you are sure. The dell site could help you possibly with a maybe a floppy to access that data.

Summary: The hidden partition on Dell is just the Dell Diagnostics. You might as well just get rid of that partition when you format. As said above, the Dell's come with an OS CD and a driver CD. If you don't...
