Hi to all,
I raised several times - unsuccessfully - a problem with hibernating my laptop. It will work a small number of times (say between 2 and 5), then hibernation hangs the laptop and I must swtich off brutally.
This problem is recorded in the MS knowledge base and was supposed to be fixed in SP2. Obviously, it is not !
It may interest some of you to know about a turn-around which worked so far : before launching hibernation, I perform a deep RAM recovery with a shareware, as I have a feeling that the problem is linked to insufficient available contiguous memory. Cheers, Claude.

When you open, then close programs, programs may not free up RAM memory. That is called
"Memory Leak". Restarting computer will clear out its RAM memory.

"Deep RAM recovery with Shareware" ??
Search the web for a program called "Ram Idle".
Many places to download free.
It displays current free RAM in the System Tray.
Also you can right click the icon to free up any
amount of RAM.
I use a Beta version I got some years ago, and
has a Memory Usage of 2,888k.

Hi Chuck 2
I am using a program called Mem Turbo which works fine. It allows me to recover RAM at will along two levels (normal or deep).

Hi friends.... A good topic, and good replies. I've often wondered if certain programs were hogging left over RAM. This gives me needed info to find out. just wanted to say thanks...

Interesting...my laptop is always FINE waking up from the first hiberation after starting up (even if it's been on for days!), but will ALWAYS hang on the second one.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,
Ed Ludlow

Hi Ed,

if you look for hibernation issues in the MS knowledge base, you will find a lot of topics associated to Windows XP, NOT Windows XP SP2, as most of them are considered as fixed in SP2.

Why not have a look at theses topics ? you will possibly find something interesting. But oviously, hibernation was never very resilient in any version of Windows !

Good luck - Claude
